University of Manchester - ECON31031: Advanced Econometrics

The Advanced Econometrics course (ECON31031) builds on basic econometrics, focusing on microdata analysis with limited dependent responses and macro-economic time series data modeling. Key topics include Parametric Maximum Likelihood for IID data, Binary Response Data models, stationary time series, unit roots, and an introduction to Vector Autoregression (VAR) models.

✔ By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• apply quantitative methods to economic problems, utilising advanced mathematical and statistical techniques;
• understand and critically evaluate econometric models and techniques, including properties of important estimators such as least squares and maximum likelihood;
• analyse various classes of single or multiple equation models, including those concerned with time series, qualitative choice, panel data, and experiments or quasi-experiments;
• understand and critically evaluate the assumptions that underpin the classical regression model; and,
• communicate and explain the essential features of certain linear econometric models through estimation and testing.
